Why am I receiving invitations from UNYK? ^ ]
The invitations you’re receiving are from people who have your e-mail address and would like you to use UNYK to keep in touch with them. The site is only an intermediary and is not responsible for these messages. If you wish to no longer receive invitations from a contact, simply click the appropriate link at the bottom of the e-mail you received. If you already use UNYK and you are still receiving invitations to use UNYK, simply add all of your e-mail addresses to your profile so that we know they belong to you.

Why are my contacts receiving invitations from UNYK? ^ ]
For the same reasons explained above. UNYK does not send any e-mails without the user’s knowledge. If your contacts receive e-mails from UNYK, they are invitations that you have initiated, i.e., e-mails related to the use of the service. UNYK automatically re-sends invitations every two weeks, and never sends an invitation more than twice. To change this option, simply change your preferences in the My Account section.

Mobile synchronization

How does synchronization work? ^ ]
Synchronization is a simultaneous bidirectional transfer of data between your UNYK address book and your mobile. The contacts on your mobile are sent to your UNYK address book. All of the contacts in your UNYK address book are sent to your mobile. If you change information in UNYK or one of your contacts updates his/her personal info, the new information automatically appears on your mobile, and vice versa. After synchronization, the data on your mobile and in your UNYK address book will be identical.

What are the requirements to be able to synchronize my UNYK contacts with my mobile? ^ ]
  1. You must have a mobile Internet connection (GPRS/WAP). More information.
  2. Your mobile must support SyncML technology, which is used to transfer data between mobiles and a Web platform. More than 1,200 models of the most recognized brands (Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Panasonic, Siemens, etc.) currently support this technology. If you cannot find your mobile on the list that appears during the configuration process, you will not be able to use our service at this time.

How do I synchronize? ^ ]
  1. First of all, you must configure your mobile using the automatic configuration SMS that was sent when you signed up for the service. If you did not receive the SMS, click the “Resend the configuration SMS” link on the “Managing your mobile” page in the “Synchronize” section.
  2. Then follow the instructions to initiate synchronization from your mobile. For the instructions, click the “How do I synchronize my mobile” link on the “Managing your mobile” page in the “Synchronize” section.

How do I configure my Internet connection? ^ ]
A bad Internet connection can cause synchronization to fail. Follow the steps below to correctly configure your mobile Internet connection:
  1. Check to make sure your connection is active. To do this, launch your browser and open a Web page:
    • If the page displays, everything is ok, and you can proceed to Step 2.
    • If the page does not display, we suggest you contact your cell phone service provider and ask that the WAP/GPRS function be activated; this will allow you to access the Internet from your mobile.
  2. Now check to make sure your mobile correctly uses the WAP/GPRS data transfer parameters by following these steps:
    • Go to the Synchronization menu on your mobile.
    • Select the UNYK Synchro profile and choose “Modify.”
    • Go to the list of WAP/GPRS profiles.
    • Select that of your cell phone service provider.
  3. Initiate synchronization again. More information.

Can I synchronize more than one mobile? ^ ]
Yes, you can synchronize as many mobiles as you want by clicking the “Add a mobile” link on the “Managing your mobile” page in the “Synchronize” section. Then follow the same steps as for the first mobile.

Why did duplicates appear in my contacts lists after the first synchronization? ^ ]
Normally, very precise rules enable our service not to duplicate identical contacts. However, the first time that you synchronize, it is possible that a capital letter or an extra space means the two contacts do not match, even though they are identical; consequently they appear as duplicates.
In this case, follow these steps:
  1. Launch the duplicates manager module on the left menu bar in the “My contacts” section. It will assist you in removing the duplicates.
  2. Initiate synchronization once again so that the duplicates disappear from your mobile. This will not happen again.

What is the maximum number of contacts that I can synchronize with my mobile? ^ ]
You can synchronize a maximum number of 500 contacts with your mobile.

Is my information secure? ^ ]
Yes. The data that you transfer to your UNYK address book is secure on our servers and is protected by the highest standards for security and fraud prevention. TrustE certified, UNYK guarantees the privacy and the confidentiality of the data. None of the information will be sold, rented or disclosed to third parties.

I accidentally deleted some of my contacts, how can I recover them? ^ ]
If you delete contacts in your UNYK address book, they will also be deleted from your mobile when the next synchronization takes place. That is the basic principle of synchronization.

If you want to get the contacts back, do as follows:
  1. Go to the “My contacts” section
  2. Select the “Deleted contacts” filter
  3. Select the contacts that you want to recover and click the “Restore to my address book” link.
  4. Initiate synchronization once again so the contacts will reappear on your mobile

UNYK by Phone

What is UNYK by Phone? ^ ]
UNYK by Phone lets you call contacts by simply saying their name from any phone while saving up to 98% on long-distance charges.

How does it work? ^ ]
It couldn't be easier...
  1. Activate the service by indicating all the phone numbers you are likely to call from.
  2. Choose a local access number in your area to avoid long distance charges
  3. Dial this number. An automated voice asks you who you want to call.
  4. Say the person's first and last name: the service will navigate your address book and put you through to that person at the price indicated for the destination. You can also dial any phone number.

How much does it cost? ^ ]
It costs nothing to activate UNYK by Phone.

Extremely low rates: Only 2.9 cents per minute from anywhere to over 40 destinations around the world. Other rates vary depending on the country and type of phone you are calling (landline or mobile).

N.B.: As per your plan, your mobile operator may charge you when you call your local access number. If your wireless plan includes free calling to certain phone numbers, be sure to register your local access number as one of your free calling numbers.

Is my phone supported by UNYK by Phone? ^ ]
Yes, UNYK by Phone works with any of 2.3 billion mobile phones in circulation today. It also works with any landline phone.

UNYK by Phone doesn't recognize my contact's name when I say it ^ ]
  1. Make sure your contact’s phone number is properly formatted in your address book, e.g., [country code] [area code and telephone number]
  2. Do not use symbols, special characters or numbers in the names of your contacts
  3. Say contact names exactly as you have entered them in your address book
  4. Speak at normal speed and volume
If you are still experiencing difficulties, you can press the # key to switch modes and dial your contact's phone number. You can also choose dial pad as your default interface in the Settings section and no longer use voice recognition.

UNYK by Phone doesn't recognize my number when I call ^ ]
If you have entered your phone number properly during the registration process, UNYK by Phone should recognize you but there are four possible exceptions:

- You might be calling from a mobile or a landline number that has not been entered in the Settings section.
- Your mobile phone might be configured to keep your number private. If so, check your user manual to change the settings.
- Some service providers do not always transmit your number/caller ID correctly.
- While roaming (if you are traveling) some service providers do not always transmit the number/caller ID correctly.

In these cases, the system may ask you to manually enter your phone number and/or your PIN (personal identification number) to make a call.

I can't find a local access number in my city ^ ]
If there is no access number in your city or where you are visiting, you can still access UNYK by Phone using a "National Access Number" for your country if there is one. A surcharge will apply, but you will still save a bundle compared to any alternative.

Why do I need a PIN? ^ ]
Your PIN is an identification number that you may be asked to provide if the system doesn't recognize your phone number. When you signed up for the service, you were sent a temporary PIN by e-mail. We suggest you go to the Settings section to change your PIN for one that's easier to remember.

What if I change my phone number? ^ ]
  1. Go to www.unyk.com.
  2. Enter your UNYK ID and click Enter.
  3. Go to the Settings section (under Call).
  4. Change your phone number (don't forget your country code) and Save.
